The OJHL announced today that Wellington Dukes alternate captain Luc Brown has been named the Gongshow Gear North-East Conference Player-of-the-Month for January after leading the Conference with 10 goals and 19 points in 12 games played during the month.
Also named runner-up for the award in September and the recipient in December, the OJHL's leading scorer continued his impressive play as the Dukes march to yet another winning record season. Brown recorded points in 10 of 12 January contests, including multiple points in four games, highlighted by a four goal, five point outing in a 6-2 victory over Stouffville to kick-off the month. The Dukes three important divisional victories saw the club defeat the number one ranked Trenton Golden Hawks twice with Brown scoring the all-important game-winner on both occasions. His four game-winning goals were tops in the league during the month and also tops this season, scoring the winner in 11 of the Dukes' 27 victories thus far.
The 19-year old native of Napanee, Ontario is currently in his fourth full season with the Dukes out of the Quinte Red Devils Minor Midget 'AAA' organization. After a slow start to his career as a 16-year old, Brown's offensive production has accelerated each season of his career, becoming one of the league's top scorers this year. Brown has set career-highs this season and leads the entire OJHL in scoring with 72 points in 42 games played, while sitting second with 35 goals. A key member of the Dukes special teams, he also leads the OJHL with 12 power play goals and 26 power play points. Brown was a member of Team OJHL Oates at the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge held in Cornwall, Ontario and finished second in scoring with five points on Team Canada East at the 2015 World Junior 'A' Challenge that was held in Cobourg and Whitby, Ontario. Earlier this year Brown confirmed his commitment to join the Union College Dutchmen beginning next season.
