Former Wellington Dukes forward Nick DeVito (photo credit - Brian Watts/OJHL Images) has been named SUNYAC Rookie-of-the-Week after scoring three goals and adding a powerplay assist as his Morrisville State College Mustangs defeated the Cortland Red Dragons by a score of 8 to 4 on Saturday. His first goal was on the powerplay, his second was the game-winner and his last goal was unassisted and turned out to be the insurance tally.
The Averill Park, New York native spent parts of the past two seasons with the Dukes after previously having played prep school hockey in his home state. Devito joined the Dukes in 2014-15 as a 19-year old and recorded 13 goals and 26 points in 48 regular season games played to finish seventh on the club in scoring. He would add two points in four post-season contests. This past year, Devito bounced around a bit after starting the season with Wellington, also playing for the Amarillo Bulls of the NAHL, before finding a home with the Junior 'C' Picton Pirates, while remaining affiliated wih the Dukes. Ultimately he notched 9 points in 22 regular season games and added a single assist in one post-season contest to close-out his junior career.
