PRESS RELEASE – The Wellington Dukes continue to build their roster with top prospects for the 2016-2017 Ontario Junior Hockey League season with the announcement of their most recent signings. All five players attended the Dukes Training Camp in May and were among the top players during the two-day camp.
Tyler Harrison, an 18 year old talented forward from Kitchener, Ontario will lace his skates up for the Dukes this winter after enjoying a tremendous season with the Ayr Centennials Junior ‘C’ Hockey Club. Harrison shined in his first season of junior hockey posting 18 goals, 36 assists and 54 points in 39 games for the Centennials and was named the Rookie of the Year for the Midwestern Junior ‘C’ Hockey League last season. In the playoffs, Harrison continued his impressive play with 8 goals, 21 assists, and 29 points in 26 games and helped the Centennials capture the Midwestern Junior ‘C’ Hockey League Championship and their first Ontario Junior ‘C’ Schmalz Cup Championship.
Jackson Arcan, a 17 year old gritty two-way centre from Barrie, Ontario joins the Dukes after an impressive first season with the Alliston Hornets Junior ‘C’ Hockey Club. The 6’0 180lbs forward was selected by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 10th Round of the 2015 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft. Arcan made an immediate impact offensively in his first season of junior hockey registering 14 goals, 29 assists and 43 points in 38 games played in the 2015-2016 season. In the playoffs, Arcan continued to be a leader on the ice as he posted 7 goals, 6 assists and 13 points in 24 games and helped the Hornets capture the Georgian Bay Mid-Ontario Junior ‘C Hockey League Championship and a Semi-Final appearance in the Ontario Junior ‘C’ Schmalz Cup Championship in April.
Evan Foley, an 18 year old Belleville, Ontario native has earned his spot on the Dukes roster through hard work and his performance this season with the Panthers and this spring with the CDHL Dukes. In 39 games the fast and skilled forward registered an impressive 23 goals, 38 assists and 61 points for the Panthers on his way to being named the Empire B Rookie of the Year. In the playoffs Evan continued to be a force offensively as he posted 2 goals, 15 assists and 17 points during the Panthers Empire B Championship and runner-up finish for the Ontario Junior ‘C’ Schmalz Cup.
The Dukes also announced they signed Port Hope Panthers hard-nosed, smooth skating defenseman Keegan Ferguson. The Grafton, Ontario native joined the Panthers as their underage player last season after being selected in the 8th Round by the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft. Ferguson played in all situations as a 16 year old for the Panthers last season. In 38 games the rugged, stay at home defenseman recorded 2 goal, 8 assists and 10 points during his first full season of junior hockey.
Dukes also announced they have signed Campbellford Rebels underage forward Brendan Rylott. The Cobourg, Ontario native finished 4th in team scoring with 10 goals, 9 assists and 19 points in 40 games. Rylott impressed Dukes staff this season with his speed and tenacity on a game to game basis at the Junior C level and has continued his strong play this spring with the CDHL Dukes.
