As the 2016-17 hockey season gets set to get underway, the Wellington Dukes organization and the Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Association have teamed up for a great season ticket promotion.
The Dukes will be offering free season passes to Prince Edward County Kings minor hockey players in the organization to be able to use throughout the season.
PECMHA President Darren Marshall says the association is appreciative of this promotion put on by the Dukes.
"The Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Association and their executive are very thankful for the generous offer from the Wellington Dukes hockey club. To give each child registered with the PECMHA a free entry pass into all Dukes home games will not only allow them to witness some great hockey, but also create some family time memories that will last a lifetime."
“ The Wellington Dukes and Prince Edward County Minor Hockey have always enjoyed a close relationship, ” said Dukes Head Coach and General Manager Marty Abrams.
“ We are thrilled that we can provide their players with a season pass for the upcoming season and look forward to continuing to partner with our local minor hockey on various projects. ”
“ For several years this community has been a dedicated and loyal supporter of the Wellington Dukes, ” added Dukes Executive President Doug Robinson.
“ We feel this is a great way to give back , especially through our youth. ”
The PECMHA started out as two separate associations in Picton and Wellington in the late 1950 ’ s.
Discussions began in the late 1980's about bringing together the Wellington and the Picton organizations to form one stronger organization. Eventually, both the Picton and Wellington associations merged in time for the 1990/91 hockey season to create the modern-day Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Association. Three years later the number of players grew to above 550 with some divisions icing three representative teams and up to nine house league teams.
From 1960 to 2015, the Picton, Wellington and Prince Edward County associations combined to achieve 37 championship and finalist banners, paving the way for great success for future generations of County minor hockey players.
