SIMMONDS AND TEAM CANADA WIN BRONZE MEDAL

 Former Wellington Duke Scott Simmonds and Team Canada defeated Team Czech Republic by a score of 4 to 3 to win the Bronze Medal at the FISU World University Games.  He finished the tournament with 3 points in 6 games as well as a +3 in the plus/minus category.   He is in his third year and is team captain  of the Guelph Gryphons of the CIS.   The World University Games were held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

 The Uxbridge, Ontario native, who helped the Gryphons capture an OUA title and a CIS Bronze as a rookie, has now taken over as team captain in this his third year at U of G. A former member of the Belleville Bulls, Simmonds is a two-sport star at the University of Guelph and recently captured an OUA title as a starter on the Gryphons men's rugby team. 

 

He played a solid checking-line role with the Dukes as a 16 year old in the 2009-10 season before moving on to play 4 years with the OHL Belleville Bulls.
