GAME 5 – FURY 5 DUKES 4
The Wellington Dukes put themselves in a huge pickle heading back home, losing 5-4 Friday night at the Iroquois Park Sports Complex and subsequently trailing the series 3-2.
A five-goal first period saw Ryan Heeps open the scoring five-and-a-half minutes in from Ryan Taylor and Princeton commitment Luke Keenan. The goals were split in the back half of the period from Colin Doyle, Luke Keenan, Kyle Prendel and Justin Brand in the busy frame and the Fury would carry the one goal lead into the second period.
Jeffrey Gauld would spread the lead to two early in the middle frame, but the Dukes would cut the lead back down to one exactly three minutes later on a Brody Morris powerplay marker from Brayden Stortz and Nic Mucci. Brock Welsh would then record what would eventually be the game-winning goal at 14:06 of the frame to extend their lead back to two again.
A Mitchell Mendonca goal later in the third was all the Dukes could muster as they returned home to face elimination. A rare sluggish performance from Connor Ryckman in the Dukes net saw the Minesing native make just 20 saves on 25 shots in the loss. Austin Cain made 36 saves for Whitby.
