The Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League are pleased to announce Colin Doyle has been named team captain and Mitch Martan alternate captain for the 2017-18 season.
Colin Doyle joined the Dukes in 2015-16 after playing for his hometown Campbellford Rebels and as a Junior A rookie managed to record 15 points in 37 games while playing on a checking line and becoming a top notch penalty killer. This past season he tripled his point output with 46 including 32 assists with both totals being third best on the team. He was also named Dukes Offensive Player of the Month for December. With two more years of junior eligibility left he is attracting attention from university levels.
Mitch Martan joined the Dukes mid-season this past year from the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL. The Whitby, Ontario native managed to pick up 17 points in 29 games but it was the post-season where he excelled his play. He led the team in goals (9), points (12), powerplay goals (4) and game-winning goals (3) and was named Dukes Offensive Player of the Month for March. He has an NCAA Division 1 commitment to attend Boston College starting the 208-19 season.
Dukes General Manager/Head Coach Marty Abrams stated " Colin has been a tremendous leader since his arrival to our program two years ago. His work ethic, determination and personality makes him a natural leader for us moving forward. He is a true Duke and cares about the team and teammates. I have no doubt he will be a tremendous Captain"
"Mitchell came to our program last year and quickly established himself as a lead by example type player. He excels in the big games and works hard on and off the ice at getting better. He sets an excellent example for our younger players"
