The Wellington Dukes wish to announce the resignation of long-time Coach and General Manager Marty Abrams effective immediately.
Abrams has been behind the bench for the Dukes for 16 of the past 18 seasons beginning in 1999-2000 and has coached over 1000 games with close to 700 (693) wins at the Junior A level. Under his watch Wellington advanced to the OJHL finals 4 times, captured two Buckland Cup titles, winning the Dudley-Hewitt Cup and advancing to the RBC on both occasions. Also, while with the Dukes Abrams was selected 6 times to represent Canada at International hockey events.
“It is with many emotions that I announce my resignation from the Wellington Dukes. This team represents where I crafted my coaching career and will always hold a very special place in my heart” Abrams said. “When I arrived, I had the great pleasure of working with the late Garry Lavender who was a tremendous supporter of a young coach finding his way and became a great friend and mentor. I would also like to thank current Dukes owner Michael Mulvihill for all his support during the past 7 seasons”
“The hard-working executive and volunteers made my stay very special and I always felt at home here. The many players and staff who came through the old and new ‘DukeDome’ and fell in love with this community and program will always be part of who I am.”
Abrams will be available for further comments by reaching him on his cell phone at 613 885 2431.
The Wellington Dukes Hockey Club wish Marty all the best in his future endeavours.
