The Wellington Dukes are pleased to announce the signing of three players for the 2017-18 Ontario Junior Hockey League.
Jake Burton is an 18 year old forward from Sudbury, Ontario. Last season he played for the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves of the GNML where he was a First Team All-Star and led the league in assists with 54 and points with 84.
Daniel Panetta is a 16 year old forward from Belleville, Ontario. He played last year for the Quinte Red Devils minor midget AAA program picking up 51 points in 35 games. He was drafted this past spring by the OHL Peterborough Petes and will become the third Panetta to have played for the Dukes following Jacob (sophomore at NCAA Colgate) and Matthew.
Zach Uens is a 16 year old defenseman from Belleville, Ontario. He also played last year for the Quinte Red Devils minor midget AAA program with 21 points in 35 games. He also got into two games as an affiliate with the Dukes last season, both wins, before being drafted by the OHL Flint Firebirds.
Dukes General Manager/Associate Coach Ryan Woodward had this to say about the signings:
"We are thrilled these players have chosen to play and continue their development in Wellington. All three will be important players to our program.
Jake has been on our radar for quite some time. He has a tremendous work ethic and ability to create offense. We expect him to have an immediate impact on our hockey club next season.
Daniel is an offensive forward with excellent Hockey IQ, speed and grit. He has a motor that does not quit and exhibits leadership skills that saw him be named the captain of the QRD Minor Midgets last season.
Zach is an offensive defenseman with excellent mobility, vision and deceptive offensive instincts. For a young defender, he has a tremendous ability to transition the puck quickly from defense to offense."
