The Wellington Dukes proved to be disruptive visitors to the Toronto Jr. Canadiens’ pond on Wednesday afternoon.
A pair of firsts, a Dario Cantini shutout and a Kyle Kavc goal, helped hugely in a 4-0 blanking of the Jr. Canadiens.
Wellington played efficiently on defence in the first period, showing no signs of road jitters and got on the board first when Jared McNeil got a pass that was funnelled to him in front by Zander Latreille and Sacha Trudel in the final couple of minutes.
A dominant second frame for the Dukes, where they scored twice and outshot Toronto 23-8, planted them firmly in the driver’s seat.
Kavc’s deflection goal from an Alex Hendry shot added to the lead at the 8:52 mark of the second, then Zack Carrier scored off a rush from McNeil and Logan Sitlani with just under three minutes left to put Wellington up 3-0.
Quinn McNamara added the other assist on Kavc’s marker.
The Dukes brought it home in the third with Ryan Schaap burying his 13th of the season with help from Zach Mascard and Cantini finishing the shutout, making 25 saves to get Wellington back in the win column.
The Dukes outshot Toronto 46-25 overall to improve to 18-10 on the season.
The win sets up a two-game home weekend versus opponents from the West Conference, starting with the King Rebellion on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
