The Wellington Dukes have kicked off their 2023-24 OJHL recruiting class with a key young signing.

Forward Mason Goodfellow signed with the Dukes’ this week after a stellar 2022-23 season with the Kingston Jr. Gaels AAA program.

Goodfellow, 16, was a pure goal-scorer in U16, recording 31 tallies and seven assists for 38 points with the Jr. Gaels.

The Yarker, Ont. native was a third round, 59th overall draft pick of the Barrie Colts in this year’s OHL Priority Selection draft.

“I’m very happy to have committed to the Dukes,” Goodfellow stated.

“It’s such a storied franchise with such a deep history. It’s local to me and I can’t wait for the opportunity.”

Head Coach Kent Lewis described Goodfellow as a rare commodity, a 16-year-old player in a 19-year-old body with maturity beyond his years.

“He plays the game in a manner that I think all fans will like,” Lewis stated.

“He’s got offensive upside; he’s got some grit. He is what I term as a young, true hockey player that’s got fire in his eyes and a will to get better. He is going to be a lot of fun to deal with.”

Goodfellow will be one of many prospects in attendance for the Dukes development camp, which runs July 29.
