The Wellington Dukes are excited and proud to announce that overage defenseman, Josh Rumolo, has committed to the NCAA Division III Cortland University Red Dragons for the 2024-25 season! Rumolo, a native of Whitby, Ontario, was acquired by the Dukes at the trade deadline from the North York Rangers to add veteran leadership and addition offense from the backend.
In 15 regular season games with the Dukes, Rumolo put up 7 points (1G,6A) and added another assist in 5 playoff games. Rumolo, who becomes the 2nd member of the 2023-24 Dukes to commit to Cortland University noted that he chose Cortland for their great hockey program and strong academics when reached for comment. “I’m very excited to announce my commitment to play at Cortland University. It’s a great hockey program with strong academics.
I’d like to thank all my family, friends and coach’s who have helped me along the way. Rumolo also had high praise for the Dukes organization and his teammates in Wellington. “A big thank you to the Wellington community and the Dukes coaches and staff for the support and guidance since I arrived. Thank you to my teammates for helping me get to this point. Wouldn’t have done it without you.
For the welly boys, thank you for welcoming me to the team with open arms and for an incredible experience.” Dukes Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Kent Lewis spoke very high of Josh’s intangibles when asked for comment on his commitment to Cortland. “We are very happy to hear about Josh’s next steps in pursuing academics and hockey. Josh was a great addition for us, both on the ice but more importantly in his character. We wish him all the best at Cortland”.
Rumolo becomes the 5th member of the Dukes 2023-24 team to earn a college commitment for the upcoming season! The Dukes are extremely proud of Josh and look forward to watching him grow as a player and a person at Cortland.
